D...is for Diligence
This week the letter is"D" and D is for Diligence. So what is Diligence? Diligence as defined by Webster's is careful and persistent work or effort. But what does that look like and mean to you in your relationships? When we hear or think about being Diligent we think of a person who puts their mind and heart into to what they are doing, and we think of Diligence as a great character trait.
If that is the case and true then it seems to be a quality that has merit and is held in high esteem, then why is it so hard to be Diligent in our relationships. You see no one ever said life would be easy so what would make us think that our marriages would be? Our relationships takes being caring, Diligent work! I have often told young ladies thinking about getting married that marriage is work and their response is usually, "well it shouldn't". Unfortunately, society has us convinced that marriage and relationships in general should not take work, and if it does become work or difficult we can just leave.
I would ask you to consider another option. Consider Diligence as a option. Being Diligent in your daily dealings. Being Diligent in being the best spouse or friend you can be. I use these two roles specifically because as a general rule we are Diligent in our roles as parents and employees or business owners. It seems odd that we can work hard for money and business but when it comes to the most meaningful and scared of relationships (Marriage) we fail to see the importance of being Diligent! Consider going out of your way today for your spouse in some way. Consider making their favorite dinner when they least expect it. Consider calling during the day just to say hi and I love you! Consider doing something that your spouse has been asking you to do and you have not taken the time or interest in doing. Consider taking your spouse to their favorite restaurant for dinner. Consider doing something special with them. This is Diligence caring and persistent effort that leads to a healthy and happy relationship!
